Four parallel workshops followed by an ideas exchange & best practices round table

Trust and Security – Through a lens on the international scene, Dr. Al Moumin will lead participants through a workshop that will highlight the issues of trust and security on a neighborhood or community level. Dr. Al Moumin will use her personal experience in Iraq and other areas, as the basis for this work, focusing on the role of women in mitigating environmental resource scarcity. This workshop will use a mix of techniques to engage the participants. Mishkat Al-Moumin

Sustained Dialogue – While this workshop will present a model of engagement with roots in the Arab-Israeli peace process, in Cold War dialogues, and in present-day Iraq, it is also being used on 15 college campuses and in US communities to deal with conflictual, destructive, and dysfunctional relationships. The model is built on long-term, sustained dialogue as a way to develop authentic trust and relationships. Participants will explore the essence of the process and then have a chance to a  examine a local model (Norfolk, VA) to disucss its applicability in their communities. Harold Saunders and Brenda Exum

Trust and Trauma – This workshop will examine the impact of trauma on attempts to build trust between groups. Dr. Hart will use examples from his own work abroad and will offer models for healing. Barry Hart

The Heart of Initiatives of Change – Exploring the foundation of the Initiatives of Change’s emphasis on values and quiet time, this workshop offers personal stories and examples as well as an opportunity to experience quiet time. Participants will get a better understanding of the underpinnings of a 70 year old organization focused on reconciliation and personal responsibility. Angela and Will Elliott
