ACROSS THE DIVIDES
Building Trust in the Community For two decades Hope in the Cities has helped transform the city of Richmond, VA from a symbol of historic divisions to a model of reconciliation. Current opportunities for engagement:
- A Community Response Team with trained facilitators that can assist the community in honest conversation across divides of race, class and jurisdiction.
- If Every Child were my Child is an initiative for Healthy Integrated Public (HIP) Schools that works to promote honest conversation in which all voices are heard and new possibilities discovered.
- Metropolitan Richmond Day convenes up to 600 leaders of the metropolitan region to build the spirit of community and raise new visions.
- Walking through History allowing people to share sacred stories that acknowledge and heal historic memory.
Building Trust Across the Nation Initiatives of Change works with a diverse network of change agents engaged in communities throughout the country. IofC provides resources through a Center for Community Trustbuilding, located in Richmond, VA that offers:
- Trust Building Forums shaping collaborative action strategies.
- The Connecting Communities Program provides an intensive training experience to increase the capacity of community leaders to overcome divisions of race, culture, economics and politics by creating a network of change makers.
- Newsletters, Facebook, Twitter and Discussion forums help forge networks for action.
Building Trust with the World Our work with the international community in Washington, DC focuses on the root causes of human insecurity around the world – economic, environmental, governance and cultural factors. Activities include:
- Forums in Washington, DC for leaders and peacemakers from all sectors of the global community. Currently, wide use of the film The Imam and the Pastor is challenging people’s thinking about the power of reconciliation and forgiveness.
- Caux Forum for Human Security convened in global partnership at the international center for Initiatives of Change in Caux, Switzerland, bringing together those working for peace and human security at all levels.
- The Caux Scholars Program, administered in Washington, recruits outstanding students from across the US and the world for an international academic program of applied studies in peacemaking and conflict transformation preparing a new generation to be trustbuilders.
