Specific Opportunities for Support
You can make a difference by directly supporting any of these initiatives:
THE CAUX SCHOLARS PROGRAM
The Caux Scholars program recruits outstanding students from across the USA and the world. One of our interns, Amy Rice (’01), a PhD student in physics, said, 'Six years have passed since my stay at Mountain House, but the lessons I learned are still fresh and powerful. Caux affected my view of the world and my conception of myself, and I gained a core belief in the synthesis of these two, the power of individual transformation to bring about global change.' A gift of $5000 will fully fund one scholar.
THE CONNECTING COMMUNITIES FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
CCFP gathers 28 community leaders from diverse racial, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds for five intensive training weekends. Graduates are now part of the facilitation team. A gift of $2,500 will cover the full tuition of one individual.
TOOLS FOR CHANGE
IofC offers Tools for Change to faith communities, universities and organizations. In 2007, IofC provided training for clergy and lay leaders of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, focusing on healing history, honest conversation and personal formation. Wright State University in Dayton presented the Hope in the Cities dialogue curriculum at a national educational conference as “a tool to transform your campus.” These tools are also offered to emerging leaders from all continents at a week-long conference at Caux, Switzerland, in August. A gift of $1800 will allow one person from the US to attend.
NATIONAL “TRUST-BUILDING” CONFERENCES
Initiatives of Change supported local government, business and education leaders in a national forum in Dayton, Ohio, June 14-16, 2007. Since 1998 Dayton has implemented the Hope in the Cities dialogue model involving more than 3,000 people across the region. A gift of $1000 can cover the round trip airfare and conference costs for two people at future events.
RECONCILIATION
One excellent tool for sharing the possibilities of apology and forgiveness is the film The Imam and the Pastor, which is touching hearts, challenging people and giving hope wherever it is shown. A gift of $500 can help distribute this film to churches, schools and universities for further engagement in interfaith dialogue.
IF EVERY CHILD WERE MY CHILD….
Hope in the Cities’ initiative for Healthy, Integrated Public (HIP) Schools facilitates conversations for PTAs seeking to create more inclusive school communities. The objective is to promote honest conversation in which all voices are heard and new possibilities discovered. A gift of $100 can fund a program for one PTA meeting.
METROPOLITAN RICHMOND DAY
This annual event (November 8, 2007) convenes up to 600 leaders of the metroplitan region to build the spirit of community and raise new visions. The current objective is to continue learning from national experts about different approaches to creating HIP Schools™ and improving academic performance. A gift of $50 can cover the cost for two individuals to be at the breakfast and forum.
Other Ways to Contribute
MAKE A GIFT OF STOCK
Many of our friends have chosen to make a gift of long-term appreciated assets such as stock or shares in their mutual funds. By transferring securities to IofC, you avoid any capital gains taxes you might incur if you were to sell the stock, and you will be entitled to an income tax deduction for the full market value of the securities. Gifts of appreciated securities that pay little or no dividends make especially good choices for charitable contributions. If this way of giving appeals to you, we would be glad to work with you and your broker to arrange a transfer. Please contact Debbie Robison in our Washington office for more information.
BEQUESTS
Thanks in great part to the legacies left to us by those whose lives have been touched by our work, we are able to share our life-changing message with increasing numbers of people around the world. Including Initiatives of Change in your will is a thoughtful and practical way to extend the support you have given us during your lifetime and leave the legacy you wish for the world.
LIFE-INCOME FUNDS
A Charitable Gift Annuity agreement with Initiatives of Change will simultaneously provide for your future and the future of our work in the world. You and your designated beneficiaries will receive regular income payments for life, and your funds will be managed by financial professionals. Upon the death of the last beneficiary, at least 50 percent of your initial gift amount will be transferred to IofC.
Make a contribution to IofC’s Pooled Income Fund in return for a proportional share of the Fund’s earnings to be received each quarter for the remainder of your lifetime. This agreement can be structured to extend over the lives of two beneficiaries. Upon the death of the last plan beneficiary, the principal amount of your contribution goes directly to IofC to support its programs.
Please contact Debbie Robison in our Washington office for more information about including Initiatives of Change in your planned giving arrangements.
IN-KIND CONTRIBUTIONS
Initiatives of Change is always grateful for donations of office supplies, computers, monitors, printers, advertising space, airline miles, and other such items that will help us increase the impact of our work. Please contact Debbie Robison in our Washington office to discuss our current needs.
